Meet Joanna, Your Fernandina Beach Piercer

A woman with short hair and tattoos on her arms, wearing a black sleeveless top and beaded necklaces, smiling and standing with her arms crossed in front of a wooden background.

Hi, I'm Joanna — the piercer behind Ocean Piercing in Fernandina Beach, Florida, serving clients throughout Amelia Island and Nassau County. We provide professional body piercing services, personalized piercing consultations, a curated selection of quality body jewelry in a welcoming, client focused environment. Whether you're planning your first piercing, adding to your current collection, looking for new jewelry, or creating a customized ear look, Ocean Piercing is here to help you find an option that fits your individual style.

My path to this work started long before Ocean Piercing existed. I've always been drawn to body art and the way it lets people express themselves. A few years ago, I had the chance to learn piercing and it didn't take long to fall in love with the craft. It gave me a way to combine my artistic background with something even more personal — helping people bring their authentic selves to life — and I quickly realized I'd found something I was both great at and genuinely passionate about. I have since spent many hours studying the craft to improve my knowledge and skill.

My goal with Ocean Piercing is simple: to bring the kind of care and craftsmanship you'd expect from a high-end studio, while keeping things approachable and personal. Whether you're a longtime Fernandina Beach local, a Nassau County native, a transplant, or just visiting the area, I want your experience here to feel safe, unhurried, and completely your own.

Piercing is about more than jewelry — it's a way of showing up in the world as yourself. Whether it's your first lobe piercing or a curated look, I want you to leave feeling confident, cared for, and completely yourself.

I can't wait to meet you!

“JOANNA💙 She’s so skillful, knowledgeable, personable..the list goes on.

Our daughter wanted a piercing for her 18th birthday and of course she was nervous. Joanna answered any questions before and after the procedure and talked Rachel through the steps. The piercing was quick and turned out great:))
She gave us multiple ways to contact her if we have any questions or regards during the healing process.
I had already read tons of great reviews about Joanna and she definitely met our expectations.

I’d without a doubt/would definitely recommend Joanna for your piercings!”

“I took my daughter to Joanna for multiple piercings. She was new to us after the place we went for her nose piercing left a lot to be desired. My daughter got her 2nd lobe set, a helix in one ear and an industrial in the other. So a lot of holes! Joanna was excellent in explaining the long healing process and very upfront with what my daughter should expect, to make sure she wanted to commit to it. She had a very confident and relaxing manner too. It was a great experience. Would recommend her to anyone.”

— Satisfied Client

“I was so nervous going into my appointment today. Joanna made me feel so comfortable and at ease. She was professional and sent me home with great aftercare tips as well as a way to reach her if I needed to. Hands down the best experience. I highly recommend!”

“Joanna provided me with an exceptional experience of piercing my daith. She walked me through the process and explained everything step by step. Very clean building and process. The entire experience was professional and we will be back.”

— Satisfied Client

“To say Joanna was amazing is an understatement. I took my 16 year old to her to get her nose and ears pierced as a sweet 16th birthday present this past week. She was so patient and helped calm my needle-fearing, anxious teen get something done she's been wanting for months. The whole place was welcoming and clean. I highly recommend for anyone looking to get pierced.”

— Satisfied Client

“I had an appointment with Joanna today and she was amazing!! She talked me through the whole process and was not only obviously knowledgeable on her skill but personable & easy to get along with. My friend who was with me also last minute wanted to get her navel restretched which she had no hesitation helping with. We both agreed after it was the easiest/most comfortable piercing we’ve had it was done very quickly. Overall a great experience and will definitely be back for future piercings”

Ocean Piercing is a professional body piercing studio on Amelia Island in Fernandina Beach, Florida, serving Nassau County and surrounding area. We're at 1453 South 8th Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034, inside Cavagnaro Tattoos.

How do I book a piercing appointment at Ocean Piercing?

Click the "Book Now" link at the top of the page (or book here directly) to book online anytime. You can also call or text us at 904-372-3281.

What are the piercing shop hours?

We're open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 12pm–5pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm. Appointments outside regular hours are available on request with a higher deposit of up to 50% of the appointment cost.

Do you take walk-ins for piercings?

Yes, when the schedule allows. Since Ocean Piercing is a solo studio with one piercer, we recommend booking an appointment so you get in when you want to.

How much does a piercing cost?

Our piercing prices start at $45 for a single ear lobe piercing and go up to $120 for a nipple pair, with most piercings between $60 and $80. That covers ear piercings (helix, conch, tragus, daith, rook, and more), nose piercings (nostril and septum), lip, eyebrow, tongue, navel, and nipple piercings. Jewelry is priced separately, starting around $15. See our full price list for every piercing.

Does getting pierced hurt?

Most people describe it as a quick pinch or pressure rather than sharp pain, and it's over in a few seconds. Pain varies by person and placement, and Joanna will talk you through what to expect before you begin.

What happens during a piercing appointment?

You'll complete the required paperwork and we'll copy the ID of the person being pierced. You and Joanna will discuss placement, and she'll mark the spot and double-check it with you in the mirror so you can approve it before anything happens. The piercing itself is a single, precise motion with sterile, single-use equipment, followed by placing your new jewelry. Joanna then goes over aftercare so you know exactly what to do next. Most appointments take about 20 minutes start to finish. For something more custom, like a curated ear or a multi-piercing look, we recommend booking a separate consultation first.

What types of piercings do you offer?

We offer ear, facial, oral, surface, and body piercings: ear lobe, helix, forward helix, conch, tragus, daith, rook, snug, industrial, nostril, septum, eyebrow, bridge, lip and labret, Medusa, tongue, navel, and nipple piercings, plus more. Dermal piercings are not currently offered.

What types of jewelry do you use?

All of our jewelry is implant-grade titanium, with gold available by special order. These materials are ideal for new piercings. We carry plenty of styles, including upgraded titanium options, so you can choose a look you love with jewelry that supports healing.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes. A deposit is collected when you book and applied to the cost of your service: $20 for most appointments. Special-order jewelry requires a 50% deposit, which becomes non-refundable once the order is placed. Appointments outside regular hours, available on request, require a higher deposit of up to 50% of the appointment cost. The remaining balance is due before your piercing begins.

What is your cancellation, rescheduling, and no-show policy?

Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your appointment. Your deposit is forfeited if you cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours' notice, don't show up, or arrive 10 minutes or more after your scheduled time. Clients with repeated late cancellations, reschedules, or no-shows may be required to pay in full at the time of booking.

Do you offer refunds or exchanges?

All sales are final, with no refunds or exchanges on jewelry or services. If a piercing needs to be redone because of a piercer error, we'll re-pierce it at no cost.

Do you pierce children and kids’ ears?

Yes! Ocean Piercing offers kids' ear piercing for ages 5 and up in Fernandina Beach, serving families from Amelia Island, Yulee, and all of Nassau County.

Anyone under 18 needs a notarized consent form completed by a parent or guardian, along with a copy of the parent or guardian's ID. [MINOR CONSENT FORM]

  • Under 16: the parent or guardian must be present at the appointment with their ID.

  • 16 and older: may come alone, but must bring the notarized form with a copy of their parent or guardian's ID, and must also bring their own ID.

Ages 5–11 must first attend an ear piercing consultation with Joanna at least one day before the piercing appointment. At the consultation, Joanna talks through the process with your child, goes over jewelry options, makes sure they're excited and ready, and reviews aftercare. This step is required, and it makes for a calmer, more comfortable appointment.

Kids' ear lobe piercings (ages 5–11) are $100 for the pair, plus the cost of jewelry.

How many piercings can I get at one time?

We recommend limiting fresh piercings to 2–4 at a time and letting them heal before adding more.

How long does it take a new piercing to heal?

Healing time depends on the piercing and on you. Ear lobes generally heal faster, while cartilage piercings like the helix, conch, and tragus take considerably longer. Following your aftercare instructions closely is the best way to heal well. Every client gets written aftercare guidance and automatic healing check-ins by text or email.

What safety measures do you follow?

Safety comes first at Ocean Piercing. Every piercing uses sterile, single-use equipment and implant-grade titanium or gold jewelry. Joanna has completed trainings through the Florida Department of Health and holds Red Cross certifications in Bloodborne Pathogens and First Aid/CPR/AED. A valid ID is required for every appointment, and minors need a completed notarized consent form.

What if my piercing looks irritated or infected?

First, do NOT remove your jewelry. Reach out to Joanna by call, text, or DM with pictures, your concerns, and a description of the aftercare routine you've been using. She'll advise on next steps or ask you to come in to troubleshoot. Most piercing problems aren't infection or rejection. They're usually simple irritation, often from something going awry in the aftercare routine, and allergic reactions are pretty rare. Removing jewelry when there is an infection can make it more serious, so leave it in until you've been evaluated.

Seek medical attention for any of these:

  • extreme redness, heat, swelling, or pain at the piercing

  • a large amount of thick, discolored, or smelly discharge

  • red streaks coming from the piercing

  • fever, chills, disorientation, or flu-like symptoms

Can you pierce me with my own jewelry?

Florida Department of Health regulations don't allow outside jewelry to be used for initial piercings. Once your piercing is healed enough, you're welcome to bring your own jewelry for a jewelry swap.

Do you do jewelry changes in the shop?

Yes! We'll change your jewelry in the shop for a $15 fee, plus the cost of the new jewelry if you're purchasing it from us. If your piercing is newer, we just need to make sure it's healed and ready for a swap. These can be done as a walk-in or scheduled.
